Securing essential aid such as food, shelter and clean water has been a challenge for Bidibidi since its establishment. In 2017, it was the world’s largest refugee camp and reached maximum capacity, limiting its ability to accept new intakes. Bidibidi was established in 2016 to respond to the influx of refugees who were fleeing war in South Sudan. One of the primary refugee camps in the country is the Bidibidi refugee settlement, which accommodates more than 200,000 individuals. Uganda is one of the largest host countries for refugees, hosting more than one million refugees and asylum-seekers from neighboring countries.
